Woops, umm, I was busy?

So as normal I have forgotten to do some blog posts, but I’d like to officially blame that on a game called “Ark: Survival Evolved” I may or may not have played over 110 hours of the game in two weeks.

Well anyway let me tell you a little bit about what is going on. So two designers and myself got together over the trimester break and started to plan out a game that we are calling “A Wizard Did It”. We were originally planning to start creating this game in our current trimester and then continue it on for our final project, but, as normal nothing goes as planned. Because of the requirements of the briefs for the two classes we have, we were required to create another two games. So we came up with the ideas for the games and now we have three games we are going to be creating this trimester, one that we have names “Sol Solutions” a game where one player is in the oculus rift moving pieces around a grid to fix a ships engine, and the other player is out of the rift with the manual that shows you how to fix the engine. The other game we haven’t named yet, but you are a monster detective of some sort who studies the scene of a monster attack and it’s up to the player to figure out what monster it is and send out some of his monster killers to kill it. The last game of course is “A Wizard Did It”, though we don’t actually have to make that game, we just have to do high level design and preparation for it (I think).

So for “A Wizard Did It” we have started on the documentation, we had two programmers thrown into the group by a lecturer, which was annoying, but I’m lead programmer and I’m going to throw all the annoying work on them.

The game that we are actually making at the moment is “Sol Solutions” we have a working alpha version of the game, and are just getting the final parts ready for the beta so we can focus on polish for the final weeks. My main tasks for the project so far have been to create a movement system, so the player is able to pick up and move objects around the map, which I was able to do without any problems, and it works rather well, So well that we spent an hour or two watching one of the designers throw things around the level. The next task that I need to do for the game is create a little robot type thing that controls a torch which the player that is outside of the rift with the manual can control. I also possibly need to create some sort of grid system that the objects can move around on and be placed in. I say I possibly need to do this, because the programmer who was assigned to do this task had his work corrupted, so I’m thinking I’ll see if I can throw a duct tape and string version together so we have something to work with.

Till next time, Nathan out!
